A Topological Menagerie

چکیده

One way to formulate this mathematically is to ask for an isotopy to remove the meridian loop m from a rigid wire w embedded in the 3-sphere, as shown in Figure 3a. (The wire represents the boy with his attached string, where the upper loop of the wire is his right hand, while the meridian represents the girl with her string.) Of course this is easy: just slide m along w to a point just below the upper loop of w, and then stretch it out and pull it off the top. Or put differently, observe that w is isotopic to the trivial wire ◦−−−−◦ and so the meridian slips right off.

The Organization and Sharing of Web-Service Objects with Menagerie

The radical shift from the PC desktop to Web-based services is scattering personal data across a myriad of Web sites, such as Google, Flickr, YouTube, MySpace, and Amazon S3. This dispersal poses significant new challenges for users, making it more difficult for them to: (1) organize, search, and archive their data, much of which is now hosted by Web sites; (2) create heterogeneous (multi-Web-s...

On Hunting Animals of the Biometric Menagerie for Online Signature.

Individuals behave differently regarding to biometric authentication systems. This fact was formalized in the literature by the concept of Biometric Menagerie, defining and labeling user groups with animal names in order to reflect their characteristics with respect to biometric systems. This concept was illustrated for face, fingerprint, iris, and speech modalities. The present study extends t...

Liberating the Biometric Menagerie Through Score Normalization Improvements

by Jeffrey Richard Paone The biometric menagerie, or biometric zoo, is a classification system used to label the matching tendencies of a given subject’s biometric signature. These tendencies may include matching their own signatures poorly or matching other subjects’ signatures better than their own. Several experiments show the biometric menagerie to be an unstable classification system where...

The Biometric Menagerie - A Fuzzy and Inconsistent Concept

This paper proves that in iris recognition, the concepts of sheep, goats, lambs and wolves as proposed by Doddington and Yager in the so-called Biometric Menagerie, are at most fuzzy and at least not quite well defined. They depend not only on the users or on their biometric templates, but also on the parameters that calibrate the iris recognition system. This paper shows that, in the case of i...
